“I think I want to be a writer…”

Millions of people say those words, but very few actually become professional writers.

That really bothers me.  Deeply, personally bothers me because I know that most of those people could start cashing checks within a few weeks!  But they won’t, and not because there is some mystical, magical spark that “real” writers are born with.

Let me introduce myself – or rather, let me introduce you to the person I was in 2004, on the day I spoke those words myself.  I was a successful web applications developer.  I had two young children and another on the way, and was exhausted.  I would walk in the door every evening, and listen to my husband talk about his day but when he asked what I had done, my only response was “It’s 5 pm.  I’m not a programmer any more.”

Something had to change, and fast.

Fast forward to today.  I don’t want to be a writer any more – I am a professional writer.  I’ve written two books, dozens of online courseware titles, articles, marketing collateral, website copy, and fiction.  I’ve sold over 80% of the projects I’ve proposed, and have had a steady stream of work from the very beginning.

Oh – and I don’t do this from Starbucks either.  (Sorry, I know that’s the dream, isn’t it?  Writing to the strains of light jazz and a mocha latte.)  I’m a little too busy keeping up with my 4th child and homeschooling the older three to chat with the baristas.

Are you ready?

You want to be ready – to land writing two new projects and take your family out to dinner or on a mini vacation this weekend without worrying about the budget.  But you have no idea how to get from where you are right now to confidently putting down “writer” as your occupation.

Wanting it isn’t enough.

That’s why I’ve created this workshop.  I want you to stop wanting to be a writer and start writing! Over the next five weeks, we’ll work together to establish a solid base for your new writing career and I’ll be right there with you when you land your first project.

How does this work?

Stop Wanting To Be A Writer is a five-week online workshop.  We meet as a group for one hour every week.  During the live meetings you’ll learn exactly how to take the next step toward becoming a professional writer.  Over the next week, you’ll take that information and put it into practice.  If you have questions, or just can’t wait to share your success, you can post to the workshop message board.

What will we cover?

Week 1: Plan Your Leap of Faith

Whether your goal is to replace your day job or just to bring in a little extra, you’ll finish Week 1 with a solid action plan.

Week 2: Setting Up Shop

In Week 2 you’ll learn how to create an efficient work space, and free up time in your day to write.

Week 3: How to work from home

Working from home can be a little strange sometimes!  In Week 3 you’ll discover how to balance invoicing and laundry.

Week 4: Administration

In Week 4 we’ll discuss what you need to do to run your business (writing is a business, you know!) legally and effectively.

Week 5: Advertize and Market Your New Business

Everything else has led up to this – the moment you stand up and tell the world “Call me for all your writing needs!”  In Week 5, you’ll find out how to get the word out – without feeling like a used car salesman.

Let’s get started!

I’ve seen eBooks, coaching packages, and teleseminars that promise you the author’s foolproof method for instant success – and you’ll pay $300, $800, even $1500 or more for them!

First off, there’s no such thing as foolproof.  I’ve met too many fools – and personally broken too many foolproof systems to believe in them!  There’s no one method that will work for everyone, which is why I won’t try to convince you to do things my way.  Instead, I’ll walk you through the process of creating your own system for success.

Secondly, I don’t know about you, but $300 is a lot of money for me to hand over in the hopes that I’ll find that one gem of wisdom that will make me instantly successful.  That’s why I am committed to keeping this workshop affordable: only $50 for 5 weeks of personal coaching and front-line tips that I use every day to keep the projects - and the checks - rolling in!

The next session starts Monday, August 17, so enroll now.  Workshop sizes are limited, and once this session is full, you’ll have to wait until the next one starts.  Are you ready to stop wanting to be a writer?
